The unknown usually arouses fear or interest. Nowadays people can easily expose what the unknown means. However, some two hundred years ago the world was full of demons created in the image and likeness of humans. Slavic culture presents abundant demonology. It was based on human imagination and attempts to explain the world through the prism of supernatural creatures. People who were evil or dissenting from the community were most frequently classified to the canon of ghosts. Some of those with weak health were treated in the same way. Dehumanisation is a universal problem and it is caused by lack of awareness or blind faith in commonplace beliefs. My artworks show the human side of the Demons. An anonymous and unreal figures emerges from the darkness and metaphorically reminds us of past wrongs.
A long time passed until the project saw the light of day. I made three drawings, 100x200 cm each, using not only charcoal but also various technics of printing (digital print and UV print). First, I created three drawings in Photoshop with the tablet which were printed as a base. Then I drew details and emphasized contrasts with charcoal. Finally, UV print was imposed and I made some corrections using charcoal. It was an amazing experiment and a great lesson for me showing the possible way to mix digital and traditional drawing. I hope to follow this way and find better and more effective possibilities in the future!
